I'm experiencing something entirely new in my life and although I would be grateful for it at any other time, right now I just think it's bizarre. I've never been faced with this before and I don't quite know what to make of it. In fact, the opposite has always been more of a struggle for me and the whole thing leaves me shaking my fists at the world saying "why, oh why, is this happening right now?" I wish I could just run with it and see where it leads me, but that's probably not wise, you know, in my current condition.
What is it, you ask?
I have no appetite. None. Zip. Zilch.
This has been going on for a few weeks now and I'm trying to be really smart and, you know, nourish the baby and all that, but seriously. I have no urge to eat. Ever. I never feel hungry and most days I only eat because I know I need to. (Although really, don't you think there's enough reserves on this bod to feed the little man?)
For the past few weeks, I've been getting by on an Eggo for breakfast at about 10 am but then I woke up Sunday and oh! No more Eggos. What's a girl to do?
Yesterday at about noon I had a bowl of cucumbers in vinegar (Don't judge me. It's one of my favorite things ever, prego or no prego) and a bite of mac-n-cheese and that was all. Then for dinner, I had about 5 fries and a piece of fish. And I literally choked it all down. I didn't want any of it.
So before the tongue lashing starts, hear this: I mentioned this phenom to Doc T on Friday, thinking he would start in about proper nutrition and how to be healthy, blah, blah, blah and this is what he said:
"Go with it. You've got enough weight on. You'll be fine."
Ouch.
And as an even stranger development, I'm still gaining weight. How does that happen? I'm really not being psychotic about weight gain, although I do resemble a woman carrying, say quads at nine plus months but whatever. I just think the whole thing is very bizarre.
I'm currently trying to choke down a protein shake and a banana, hoping a few nutrients make their way to Baby Boy, but I think I'll have to run to the store and stock up on more Eggos. Surely a fetus can survive or processed sugar products and cardboard bits, right?

A fetus can survive on nothing. I was sick the whole time with Mattie and hardly ate a thing for months. She turned out to be the happiest and healthiest little thing. About the weight thing. I don't get why us women have to go thru scientific wonders.
I had the same issue with both of my kiddos! I just was never hungry. I remember being so frustrated, the one time when you should be able to eat and I had no desire. Any other time in my life I live to eat! I think mabye it was because my kids were complete rib huggers. My nurse told me to drink two slim fasts between my meals for the vitimans. I got some serious dirty looks when people would see a prego women buying slim fast. I feel for you. It really is a bummer!
I have never had this problem, can't even imagine it really. I live for the next meal. The baby is great, they really don't need as much as we think. So sorry, because one of the pleasures of pregnancy is craving and satisfying.
I'm the same way for about the first six months of my pregnancy and then the last three months my appetite kicks in big time and I make up for lost time. Which is just frustrating, because by that time my babies are so big I don't have room for a lot of food anyways. I literally lived on dry cereal and tiny sips of juice for about three months with Morgan. I feel for you.
I had the same experience as Jan with all of my girls. Couldn't eat a thing and keep it down for the first 5 months. I eventually was able to eat and gain weight, so all was well.
I think I would die if my doctor told me that. Just die.
Waa waa. What is with all you people? When I am pregnant, I eat anything that is not nailed down, and then I eat those too, plus the nails. I eat like it's going out of style and then I resemble a baby whale at six months along. Karen, I say run with it and enjoy it--especially since your doctor gave you the okay.
Well, not eating will solve all those wonderful pregnancy issues such as indigestion and constipation! I say count yourself lucky!
If you ever figure out what causes you to not be hungry... bottle it.... you'll be the richest person on the planet!
Sign me up for this problem. I think all the puking got to you. A person can only take so much nausea before eating in general is just associated with all things terrible.
Love how I can come to your site and see what my baby looks like.
oh man, that is a phenomenon. You know you are making me NOT want to take the baby leap with every frightening post, right??
Ok...I was laughing at Alicias' post! I ate everything too! So...count yourself lucky! HORMONES!!!! The devils work place! YEah...my doctors have put me on diets during pregnancy so I wouldn't gain any wieght! Not fun!
Josh survived on baked goods while in utero for almost my entire pregnancy. I'm not sure how, but he did.
I think you are doing just fine. You seem to be listening to your body, and if that means that you don't want to eat right now, then go with it!! Baby boy will be just fine!
Seriously, you will be fine and so will baby Stan. I seem to recall the flood gates opening after the birth of Sienna as you lost about 50 million gallons of water (I won't go into detail).
Sheesh... What's up with Dr. T? He needs to work on his bedside manner.
Don't stress about the food thing. I'm sure little Helium is getting adequate nutrition. :)
Spinach bowtie pasta= Delish
I had no idea it was going to be enough to feed half the town. It was nice to have leftovers!!
Thanks for sharing.
Yeah I'm not really feeling for you Sorry. I have the exact opposite problem. The only consolation is at about 6-7 months (soon) I don't ever want anything but ice and I can't get enough! I have even gone so far as to go over to my in-laws and scrape their freezer:( Yuck I know but I can't get enough. I’m already starting to get the itch... Um by the way Vinegar cucumbers are AMAZING! I love love love them anytime too:)
Okay, you looked great in the pictures from the blogger's lunch. You just eat whatever you darn well please, even if it is eggos!
I'm always hungry whether I'm pregnant or not. So I have no idea what you are experiencing. Although I do know what it's like to not know what to eat despite the hunger pains! UGH. Good luck!
eggos are great I love them whenever, you eat whenever you fell up to it, things will work out for the best
